Our Goats
There is nothing like a nice cold glass of raw (unpasturized) goat milk, straight from the udder only 20 minutes ago! Raw milk is so much more nutritious than pasteurized milk. Tragically, the heat of pasteurization not only kills the bacteria (good and bad) but destroys all the enzymes that allow proper digestion of the milk. The measure of proper pasteurization is the complete lack of any enzyme activity in the processed milk. In properly handled milk and milking procedures, there are so few 'bad' bacteria that the good ones vastly outnumber them. The good bacteria are essential for proper digestion and food absorption in the intestines.
Do you have gas from drinking grocery store milk? The reason you do is because your body does not produce lactase, the enzyme necessary to digest the lactose (a sugar) in the milk. Without this enzyme, the lactose ferments, making gas. Lactase is also necessary to assimilate the calcium in milk, and the form calcium in milk is the most easily assimilated source of calcium for one's bones and teeth. Raw milk contains this and many other wonderful enzymes, which make milk a complete food not only for kid goats, but for humans as well!
